Wordpress 2.5.1 released

Seems that the Wordpress team goes on a bug hunt every weekend, this time releasing more than 70 fixes, although this is more of a security release than a feature pack.

Nothing much special about this, if you don’t wish to upgrade, you can simply update the folders via FTP, here are the folder fixes: wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php.

Well here are total fixes:

  • Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
  • Better performance for those who have many categories
  • Media Uploader fixes
  • An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • Widget Administration fixes
  • Various usability improvements
  • Layout fixes for IE

Sony to launch movies online store for PS3

Files under Sony, internet | Leave a Comment

This is getting excited. With faster internet and larger bandwidth anything seems to be possible nowadays. iTunes is a winner in multimedia online stores, but Sony doesn’t want to get left behind.

It’s not the first time Sony tries this, Sony Connect was shut down in March, while it was supposed to be iTunes’ rival. This time Sony’s market is quite tight, as it will only be available in PlayStation’s online store. This can mean exclusive HD content, although internet connections might not yet support these type of file downloads.

Humanoid Robots - The Best Gadget

It is normal the presentation of new and updated, upgraded prototypes of Humanoid Robots, almost every month we see a new video from youtube of a genre of robot doing this or that. Actually they are tested to be used in the future as a common electrodomestic to help the human being on the daily routine. When one day that I talked to a Portuguese creator of robots, the thing I asked was:

How the company on which you are working will make money with this? They are all in test phases, this is an investigation work of decades!!!??? Are you selling any product right now?

He answered: “MH (my nickname right here), you even imagine how my company is profiting…They are offered work investigation from other companies, as NASA or something like that, and they pay for the development and things that are then uncovered by our company. Whit that we make money, and we also sell some gadgets to hospitals (mainly this institutions, but also particular clients), because every single step we walk is a new world discovered to the medicine. Of Course, the State also contributes to this kind of work.”

I had, on that day a great and big talk with him, and this business still being misterious.

Now, I am here to post a video of a new and improved robot from Pal Technology Robotis (REEM). They have two prototips, and the second can get 12 kilos on him and do all the job needed to. Check it down:

REEM-B is the evolution of the first humanoid created by Pal Technology Robotics, the REEM-A. The first prototype was designed to play chess with the Hydra chess engine and to be used as development platform. With REEM-B, Pal Technology comes astonishingly close to its final goal; to create a humanoid service robot that will be able to help humans in the future with sophisticated tasks. Our robot can walk dynamically, recognize and grasp objects, lift heavy weights and go around by itself inside any building complex, avoiding obstacles.

It can speak with people and accept voice commands, recognize faces and remind appointments as a secretary. All these features, including the large battery autonomy, makes REEM-B unique in its type. Discover REEM-B, one of the most sophisticated humanoid robots in the world. Discover REEM-B, one of the most sophisticated humanoid robots in the world.

How to have free wireless internet?

I can tell you it is easier then you are thinking. You just need to have some devices that you can buy in an electronic store, close to your home. I haven’t tried it, because I am acceding free with my laptop without that a connection from a McDonalds. Nice, isn’t it? But imagine you want to link that wireless to a desk PC? Just follow the instructions and Good Luck.T

The Instructions

If you do everything they say, you will have something like this:

Now, think better. If you had been paying 30 euros for the internet monthly, you can be saving 30*12=360 euros, without doing any real crime, or something like that.

Microsoft Surface unveiled at 5 AT&T stores

Files under Microsoft | Leave a Comment

12 AT&T stores will have the gigantic Microsoft touchscreen table by next month, but for now only 5 of them have. We do not reside in the US&A, but managed to bring you some videos and opinions of who was there.

My favorite part of the Surface is that it has lots of touch points; one person can zoom in on an object while another person flicks a different object. At one point, we had 30 fingers on the table, and they were all registering. The ability to collaborate in a physical way (group painting or photo sharing come to mind) will definitely be a big draw. Inevitable comparisons to the iPhone—curiously unavailable to place on the table—are warranted: It’s basically the same feel, but 10x bigger.

Panasonic’s lightweight SDR-S7 camcorder announced Release date

Files under news | Leave a Comment

This gadget proves that cameras without High Definition will never dominate the market at this times. Panasonic, now a company focused more in cameras and simple gadgets and less in mobile phones is now making delicios a movie moment.

The company has announced that its pocket-sized SDR-S7 will be arriving in Japan later this month. Weighing only 182grams with its battery and SD card, the camera can record 16:9 or 4:3 video at VGA (640 x 480) resolution in MPEG-2 format. The camcorder can shoot in three video modes: XP (10 Mbps), SP (5 Mbps), and LP (2.5 Mbps). Video recordings are stored via SD cards, with up to 16GB support—allowing up to 13 hours of recorded video in LP mode.  The featherweight SDR-S7 is equipped with a 2.7-inch widescreen display, 10x optical zoom, stereo microphone, 0.6 seconds Quick Start, and USB 2.0 for fast file transferring. Panasonic is touting the camcorder’s 3.8 seconds boot up time and battery life of 70 minutes. Unfortunately, no HD capability is included, which is a bummer.

The price isn’t too much high, it is predicted to 440$. The release date is at 25th April.
